Troubleshooting Parallel CD Burners
When it comes to troubleshooting the hardware of a Parallel CD Burner there isn't much to really look at, apart from the below steps. If the CD Burner is old then it can be possibly failing due to the amount of burning hours it has had.
Like a car, CD, DVD roms and players have a mileage setting which is measured by the amount of burning hours the drive has used.To test a Parallel CD Burner remove the Parallel cable from the drive, so only the power cable is connected, and insert a software disc or audio disc into the drive - do not use a CD-R or CD-RW at this point.
Once the CD is entered you should hear the CD Burner spin the disc and the LED's should show some kind of activity. Usually the LED will flash green, which tells us the CD Burner is attempting to access the disc - this should only last for a couple of seconds.
You may need to check with the CD Burner Manufacture to see what these LED's mean or refer to the CD Burner manual. If you have established the Parallel CD Burner is not at fault then its time to start looking at the Parallel Configuration.
