If you have Windows 2000 and installed Roxio Direct CD version 3.01d_S54 or 3.01d_S49 you may get the annoying prompt to upgrade your Roxio Software, after selecting “Do not how this dialog again” the prompt still appear on boot up.
First suggestion is to use the msconfig to disable the load startup programs on the PC - please not by disabling the load startup group items Roxio Direct CD will need to be manually started.
If you have Direct Direct CD version 3.01d_S49 installed its highly recommended to download the update dcd_v305_up.exe from Roxio > Support > Easy CD Creator.
If you have Direct CD version 3.01d_S54 installed you can use the dcd30s64.exe Click to Download dcd30s64.exe Update Patch
So what is the best method to install these patches?
First, establish what version of Direct CD you are using by launching the Direct CD Wizard and make note of the version stated on the Title Bar.
Download either software patch above that is required for you version of Direct CD.
When the prompt to upgrade Roxio CD Software appears select the option not to show it again and install the patch, now reboot the System and see if its gone.
If the issue still appear then the fix may requiring editing the registry, this should be only done by those confident with the registry and must accept full responsibility for any problems caused by entering the register.
Type regedit by opening the run command from the Start Menu which will open the Registry Editor, make sure to complete a back-up of the registry before moving on.
Follow the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adaptec\DirectCD\3.0 and create a new DWORD called DontShowUpgrade. Once created you want to edit the new DWORD and set the Value data from 0 to 1. Press F5, exit the registry and restart the system.
